Upper Thames Conservation Authority
When it was founded in 1947, the UTRCA focused on the protection of the upper watershed of the Thames River and flood control through engineering. Today, the UTRCA takes a more holistic, ecosystem approach and has adopted the mission statement “Inspiring a healthy environment." Some of their programs and services include watershed planning, environmental monitoring & research, soil conservation & forestry, conservation areas, lands & facilities, environmentally significant areas, and community partnerships. The UTRCA also has 2 facilities (Fanshawe Conservation Area and Wildwood Conservation Area) dedicated to environmental education and offers other programs outside of those facilities designed to bring the environment to the public.
